Wiley Wednesday: Revisions, Revisions, Revisions — No Comments

  1. I didn't know that about Mr. Lovecraft! Dickens, too, was paid by the word. 🙂 That would be kind of fun, wouldn't it? One of the people in my NaNo region write something like 268,000 words during last November's NaNo. (Of course, we killed her and buried her under the porch… KIDDING!!) But wouldn't it be cool to be paid by the word for that? ~hugs~

  2. You're absolutely right that editing can be just as productive as actually writing new material! If we were getting paid by the word, I'd probably be a gazillionaire before you know it (no more incentive to restrain myself at all, lol). Thanks, Darla!

  3. What I'm surprised at is everyone else's thoughts that writers aren't paid by the word, anymore, to be honest.

I haven't looked at very many publishers, but the few I did look at did pay by the word.

Anyway, to the bulk of your post: revisions are very handy.

And, I've never really head much of Lovecraft, actually. I do know, however, that he was a close collaborator with one of my favorite authors, Robert E. Howard.

  4. I appreciate the kind comments! Catherine, I can't imagine writing that many words in a month; could her manusccript have turned out like the big insanity scene in "The Shining?" Nikki, thank you for your invaluable comments that have helped me learn what to cut! Lucius, I am glad you reminded me of Robert E. Howard and can only imagine that method of payment is dependent upon what and where you wish to contribute.
