The Perfect Independence Day — No Comments

  1. Happy belated Independence Day! What a thoughtful post. My holiday was, ironically, spent focused intently on rewrites. That's been the way I spend all my holidays lately, even Christmas and New Year's Eve. Obsess much, Darla? Other than that, when and how I write are fickle, depending on some mysterious mood factor, but it's usually on the keyboard as opposed to pen and paper these days, and either holed up in my office or at a table in front of my giant print of Dracula's Castle. 🙂 Happy writing, however you get it done, dear!

  2. How true, Nikki! The ebb and flow of the muse is always there. I find it hard to be kind to my writer and think of writing as 'fun' not a chore. It's definitely more enjoyable, and easier to keep going when it's play and not work.
I love the image of your freaked out cat-the local fireworks go off only a block from here and my animals have taken a while to get used to the noises. Hope yours is okay this morning now there's some quiet.

  3. What an inspiring post!

My Independence Day custom includes barbecue, and I love fireworks. This year, we had two barbecues, one at a friend's and one at our place. At the friend's, we went to see the City of Evanston's fireworks – which was great fun. I might float that as our custom for next year, too.

As regards writing, I just write. I do what works. I keep my morning pages up, and artist dates, and work as hard as I can to stay in the moment. When I'm doing those things well, I write more. When I'm not, then I tend to get blocked. I don't do them on a set schedule; though I've tried, schedules really don't work for me because I'm not a 'regular' person. I like variety. So I just try to stay focused on what works, and write lots.

    C'est fini. 🙂
